Development Of Industry

The council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday evening appointed two sub-committees or the nucleus of them, to help promote industrial development In Christchurch. One <rf the sub-committees will make a more detailed Investigation into what industry contemplating coming to Christchurch might want, especially in sites. The other subcommittee will consider the feasibility of local body amalgamation in Christchurch. The printing and wide distribution' of a booklet setting out the advantages of Christchurch for industry will be considered. The chairman of the chamber's economic affairs committee (Mr J. M. Tocker) said that the Canterbury Public Relations Officer (Mr A. MacKenzie) had said that In his 18 months service he had received only one request from industry for advice on finding a site in Christchurch. Mr Tocker said that this showed an urgent need for good salesmanship for Christchurch.
