Policy Not In Effect
Although Social Creditists formed provincial governments in Alberta and British Columbia, Social Credit was not being carried out “in its true sense” in Alberta, a Christchurch man, Mr D. Ross, found during a recent visit to Canada.
The members of Parliament were Social Creditists but all the party’s policies were not carried out, Mr Ross told members of the Christchurch area group of the Pan Pacific and South-East Asia Women’s Association on Thursday evening. It appeared they would have to change some ef Alberta’s basic laws if they were to use their own system.
During his visit to Canada, Mr Ross spent a week on a fishing boat Patrol boats were active day and night along the border between Canadian and United States fishing areas, he said. Any boat caught across the border could be tied up for six months as a penalty. The Canadian fishing industry was well controlled. Fishermen reported their catches so a fisheries commission could keep a record of the number of fish going out to spawn. Milk Flights Seattle was the nearest American port to Alaska and fresh milk was flown from there daily, mostly in cartons, he said. During an extensive tour of the Pacific area, Mr Ross spent some time in Alaska. He showed slides of the long sun rise at Barrow, the north-ern-most point of Alaska. Point Barrow, not far from the township, was 1200 miles from the North Pole.
