BIG RISE IN ROLLS

Technical Institutes (N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, July 5. The rolls of technical institutes were outstripping those of universities, said the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) in Hastings this afternoon when he was opening buildings worth $300,000 at the Hastings Boys' High School. Technical institute rolls had increased 20 per cent last year, he said. New Zealand would depend more and more on high technical skill. At present the technician was a man who was little known, but in more advanced countries he was an important person. Unfortunately, in New Zealand many people felt that technical education was a little Inferior to other types of education, said Mr Kinsella.
