Canterbury Unions

The Canterbury Trades Council of the Federation of Labour did not oppose a 7} per cent salary increase for members of Parliament, the council’s president (Mr R. A. Hill) said yesterday. Mr Hill said he felt sure that no-one would dispute the right of wage and salary earners to have increases at the very least in line with those of Parliamentarians. The amount claimed by the federation for a general wage order increase was very elose to the increase suggested for Parliamentarians. Loral trade unions would hold discussions with employers to try to reach decisions to implement the decision of the federation’s conference to press for a 5 per cent cost-of-living increase.
