District Heating
Sir,—Mr Neary’s comment on Dr J. B. Scott’s proposal fcr large-scale district heating schemes is of considerable interest. It is indeed doubtful if district heating, as developed overseas, would be viable in a sprawling urban development such as Christchurch, but surely the best district heating system that could be developed is already in existence—the gas works. Why is this not put to greater use? Gas and coke could be expanded in production, and with the expansion would come a reduction in cost; or this is usually the case.— Yours, etc., _ . CITIZEN.
