Five Fire Calls
The fire brigade attended five minor fires on Tuesday. A small fire in a garage and storeshed at 64 Dacre Street, at 10.42 a.m., caused only minor damage. One machine from headquarters and one from Woolston attended. The occupier is Mrs Christine Young. Fire in a garage and shed at 33 Austin Street at 11.38 a.m. caused slight damage. One machine from headquarters and one from Sydenham attended. The occupier is Mr T. G. Nunan. A fire in the main switchboard in the galley of the ship Sussex, at 11.38 a.m., caused no other damage. Two machines from the Lyttelton Volunteer Brigade and one from Woolston attended. The ship was berthed at Cashin Quay. A fire in a settee at 44 Tuwera Street at 6.57 p.m. damaged only the settee. One machine from Harewood and one from Sockburn attended. The occupier is Mr T. M. Gresson. An outside wood chip conveyor at Wisemans Timber Preservation, Ltd. 351 Blenheim Road, at 8.21 p.m., was attended by machines from Sydenham and headquarters. It also caused only minor damage.
