Highland Rebel Waipa Pick

“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Highland Rebel’s form in open company at Rotorua seems an excellent recommendation for his chance in the first leg of: the T.A.B. double. The Anzac Handicap, at Te Auamutu tomorrow.

In the form that enabled him to get fourth in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie, Reoffered should win the second leg. the Winston Churchill Handicap, at the Waipa Racing Club's meeting. Highland Rebel will be dropping a grade to intermediate class in the Anzac Handicap and consequently has more weight than he carried at Rotorua—Bst 61b compared with 7st 81b Happy Return, which finished fourth in the Rotorua race, is up 101 b to Bst slb. A four-year-old gelding from Te Aroha. Highland Rebel finished second in three of his last four races and fifth the other time. over a mile at Puekkohe. Middle distances, such as the 10 furlongs of the Anzac Handicap, suit him best. He suffers through a lack of early speed at shorter distances.

Highland Rebel raised sufficient pace to be prominent all the way at Rotorua, over 10 furlongs and 180 yards. Happy Return raced handily all the way and also ran on gamely.

Man o' Man finished third between Highland Rebel and Happy Return at Rotorua and was third the time before, in an intermediate mile at Tauranga. He has often shown worthwhile form in moderate company. His latest form has indicated that he will win where the opposition is not too strong.

Reoffered’s fourth in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie was considerably better than could have been expected from any horse he.will meet this time. After sharing the pace-making

he dashed clear early in the run home and for a time looked to have a winning break. After rain early in the week the going will probably be soft. Selections:
