ILLNESS DELAYS PLAYER’S RETURN

The former Canterbury soccer captain and “player of the year,” T. Conley, now playing in Australia, has asked the Shamrock club to amend the contract he has signed for the 1969 and 1970 seasons.

This was stated in a letter from the club read to a meeting of the Canterbury Football Association management committee last evening. Conley, who was due to join Shamrock earlier this year, has sought the amendments to his contract because of his wife’s illness. She is having treatment from a specialist in Melbourne and will be unable to travel for some months.

Conley is still very keen to join the Shamrock club and is hoping to leave Australia at the end of August or in September. Shamrock will ask Conley to get a definite clearance from his presnt club, Hakoah, so that by August or September it will know if any further action is necessary.

Conduct On Field The New Zealand Football AMociation hat tent a circular

to all clubs on players' conduct on the field It includes four recommendations made by the executive:

In future, only team captains will be allowed to make any form of appeal to the referee or linesmen. A player who makes an appeal and dissents from the referee's decision must be cautioned.

Unfair acta of “gamesmanship” designed to waste time and delay play will be viewed seriously as ungentlemanly conduct. A referee must caution a player committing an offence such as standing on or near the ball to delay the taking of a free-kick If such an act is repeated by any member of the team, the offending player must be sent off. Time wasted by such acts must be added to the duration of rhe game. Any player with a minor injury must be taken to the sideline without holding up play. For these minor injuries, trainers should not be called on to the field.

If a referee wishes to consult a linesman he must do so before, not after, making a decision.
