Takaka High School
Sir, Regarding recent articles on Form I to VI schools, Takaka District High School has “missed out” again after an indirect promise that it would be one of the first on the list. Our district, more than most, is cut off from pities, and therefore secondary education for our country children does not compare favourably with that for our city children. I know there is an economic crisis, but feel that education, which is so necessary, should not suffer through economic stringency. After all, it is only the few families who can afford to send their children to the bigger schools to further their education. Today country children should have the same rights as town children to secondary education. I believe that Takaka has a great need for the type of school that the Government has refused to give us.—Yours, etc., JOY SIXTUS. Takaka, April 20, 1968.
