NO DISCUSSION
The Mayor of Christchurch (Sir George Maning) last evening ruled against any discussion by the Christchurch City Council of the Civic Defence Organisation. Cr W. H. Mathison said he wanted to make his position as a city councillor plain in relation to civil defence, in view of certain correspondence in the newspapers. He said he was a sub-area warden but had been told by Mr J. F. Moffat, the civil defence officer, that some changes had been made and he was no. longer a warden.
Cr Mathison said he had already told Mr Moffat that he was going to resign. The Mayor then ruled that this was a matter between Cr Mathison and the civil defence organisation. Cr L. G. Amos asked if the council would make representations on the proposed changes in civil defence structure. The Mayor said that if there were any such suggestions, members of the civil defence committee could refer them to their own councils. (Other reports, back page)
