Nylex Sees Large Plastics Growth
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 12. The chairman of Nylex Corporation, Ltd (Mr F. L. Fitzpatrick), forecasts tremendous growth potential for the plastics industry in Australia, but says that the immediate short term may be difficult.
In his chairman’s address accompanying the annual accounts, Mr Fitzpatrick says that per capita consumption of plastics materials in Australia in 1967 was 321 b compared with a per capita consumption in the United States for the same year of 721 b. “These comparative figures alone indicate a tremendous potential for growth in Australia without allowing for the certain further developments in the industry,” he says. Mr Fitzpatrick warns, however, that 1968 has commen-
ced with indications of some national difficulties. “It is yet early to judge the effects of the drought in the southern States, the heavy wage burdens arising from the recent Arbitration Court decisions, and the financial problems of Great Britain which can have repercussions on the Australian economy. “Our volume of business in the early months has been up to expectations. In the long term we have all the essentials for success.
