Four Peaks Climbed
Canterbury Mountaineering Club members, who were out in force at the’ week-end, showed by safe and successful climbs of four peaks that the greatest hazard was the weather and the greatest danger, inexperience, said the president (Mr D. C. Morse). From a party of 32, 23 climbed high peaks, the rest being older members who visited old haunts round the Arrowsmith Range and Cameron Valley, about 15 miles beyond Lake Heron. Eleven climbed Tent Peak (7900 ft 11 climbed the East Horn of Mount Arrowsmith (about 8000 ft), seven climbed Marquee Peak (8000 ft and two climbed Prop Peak.
There were three experienced climbers for every novice, Mr Morse said. The party had one of the club's new radios at the hut at the head of the Cameron Valley and kept contact with a base 100 miles away in | Christchurch. , L
