GROUP CAPTAIN G. R. BRABYN
A well-known Royal New Zealand Air Force officer, Group Captain G. R. Brabyn, has died at Auckland. He was commander of the R.N.Z.A.F. base, Auckland. Group Captain Brabyn joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1939 He passed out at Wigram from the first war-time pilots’ course and after service with the Royal Air Force in Britain and Canada, served with an R.N.Z.A.F. fighter squadron in the Pacific. From 1948 to 1949. Group Captain Brabyn was commanding officer of the administration wing at Wigram. He spent two years on exchange duty with the R.A.F. as a squadron commander at the Central Flying School. Little Rissington, Gloucestershire. When he returned he was on the staff of the Director of Operations (Flying Training) at RNI AJ. Headquarters. In 1954 he was posted to Wigram as officer commanding the Flying Training Wing.
Group Captain Brabyn was officer commanding the R.N.ZA.F. Transport Wing from 1956 to 1958 and then served on transport and maritime operations at Far East Headquarters, Malaya. In 1961 Group Captain Brabvn was appointed Director of Recruiting at R.NZAF Headquarters. He was at the Joint Air Services Staff College in 1962, and from 1963 to 1967 he was Director of Postings and Personal Services.
