Trip Off
(N Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, April 1. Within weeks of her scheduled departure for the “Miss International” beauty contest at Long Beach, California, Miss Joy Crowley has been told her trip has been indefinitely postponed.
Miss Crowley, the Bay of Plenty representative who was runner up in the “Miss New Zealand” contest last year, was to have left on April 22. Miss Crowley, aged 20, had already been given the multiple inoculations necessary to enter the United States and is now suffering the after affects. No Job Her dreams of the American trip shattered, she now has a wasted $3OO wardrobe and no job. The wardrobe was not part of the prize but Miss Crowley was to have received a $lOO ball gown. The promoter of the “Miss New Zealand” show (Mr Joe Brown) said in Auckland that he did not want to let Miss Crowley down and would do everything possible to compensate her for the loss of the trip. Mr Brown said the contest had been called off because of confusion over venues and dates.
