New Transport Ministry Plan
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, April 1. AH internal forms of transport are likely to be co-ordinated under a single Minister if a new plan formulated by the Cabinet Committee on Government Administration is adopted.
Such a plan was strongly recommended by the Royal Commission on State Services in 1962, and has since been supported by the State Services Commission.
The present Commissioner of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek) is expected to become permanent head of the new Ministry. He is a skilled administrator, who will have much more scope in his new job than he has at present. The plan is for the present departments concerned with
It is expected that a new Ministry will be formed under the leadership of the present Minister of Transport, Railways and Civil Aviation (Mr Gordon), who has shown great efficiency in the last year in getting the best out of his departments.
transport to become divisions of the new Ministry. The setting up of a Ministry of Transport would mean that it would be the problem of the Minister and his permanent head to co-ordinate road, rail, sea and air services, and to recommend expenditures accordingly.
