The Elginshire
Sir,—l have just read with great interest the article by liosaleen O’Donohue in “The Press” of January 13, about the three cabins from the wreck of the Elginshire, which are now on a farm near Ashburton. I have in-my possession a ruby red hanging lamp which came from the Elginshire, and which I think was her riding light. My father bought it when we lived in Timaru over sixty years ago, from a Mr Metz, but I do not know how he came to own it It is perfect in every way, and is made of very solid brass. It hangs in my sitting room, and is always an object of great interest to visitors. I can very well remember seeing the remaids of the Elginshire wreck a few miles from Timaru when I was a child.— Yours, etc., . (MISS) MARJORY ’ HARDY. Woodbourne, January 13, 1968.
