Army Officers Charged

Fifty-five army officers would face court-martial next week, charged with trying to overthrow the Egyptian Government and take over the armed forces command, it was officially announced. The director of the Prosecution Bureau, Mr Aly Noureddin, said last night that indictments against the 55 defendants would be announced tomorrow. ; Mr Noureddin did not name the defendants, but said they included 45 officers and two non-commissioned officers on active service and eight officers on the retired list. The 55 would be tried by a special court, presided over by the Deputy Premier, Hussein El Shafei, next Monday, he said.
