GIFT TO INDIA
Japanese Stallion (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Japanese racing authorities have given a stallion to further the breeding industry in India and are selecting a second sire for the same purpose, Mr T. Yamano said yesterday at the Asian Racing Conference. “The conditions for breeding tn some countries are still inadequate,” he said. "Japan has imported enough ■tock to support her domestic needs and will help any conference country which wants a stallion.” Assistance of this nature had been discussed before, Mr Yamano said. After appropriate discussion, the Japan Lightbreed Horse Association would buy a proven stallion to be given to India. The stallion already chosen •Ad on the way to India is the Japanese-bred Hakuchikara. by Tobizakura. A 12-year-old with a fertility rate of 85 per cent, Hakuchikara stood in Japan at a stallion station of the, association. Mr A. Basu, who recorded India’s appreciation of the gift, said later that when Hakuchi kara arrived in Calcutta he would go to a private stud in Western India approved by the turf authorities of India. Selected mares recommended by the authorities would be mated with him. After three to four years in Western India, Hakuchikara would be moved to the south of India, at a stud near Bangalore.
