GUARANTEE NOT MET
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The scheduled appearance by an Australian Universities water polo team at Masterton last night was cancelled because the Wairarapa Swimming Centre considered the guarantee asked was excessive, said the tour organiser (Mr D. Kilpat- ! rick). The meeting had been can-i
celled several weeks ago, he said. Mr Kilpatrick said guarantees were required from bach centre at which the team appeared to help meet the inland travel costs of the visit. The Australians had paid their own fares to New Zealand, but travelling costs in New Zealand (about $1600) had to be met by the New Zealand University Swin ming Council. | The Wairarapa centre had .offered 25 per cent of any i profit rather than the guaraiii tee, but this was considered insufficient, he said. “We would require about SlOO from Masterton and we I did not think that 25 peri
cent of the profit would meet this amount,” said Mr Kilpatrick. All South Island centres had offered the required guarantees (about $lOO each). North Island centres bad not been so willing to provide guarantees and some had preferred to turn over their entire profits for their meeting to the University Swimming Council instead, he said The meeting which was to have been held in Masterton was transferred to Palmerston i North. Rugby Win.—The touring Petersham Rugby Union Club, of Sydney, beat the Belgian national team. 9-5. Petersham led, 30, at half-time.
