Extra Cost Of Fill

(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Jan. 17. Senator John L. McLellan, chairman of the Senate Permanent Investigations Subcommittee, said today Britain’s cancellation of the Fill order might cost the American taxpayer an extra $2OO million in development of the aircraft. Senator McLellan (Democrat, Arkansas), a critic of the Government’s handling of the Fill development programme, told a reporter that the unit cost of the Fill was already two to two and a half times greater than originally estimated. In Canberra political sources said Britain’s cancellation of the Fill order was expected to be reflected in a rise in cost of Australia’s order for 24 of the aircraft.
