MINISTER RESIGNS

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 17. A British Minister, Lord Longford, who is 62, has resigned over the Cabinet’s decision to postpone for two years raising the school-leav-ing age to 16. Lord Longford’s post of Lord Privy Seal will be taken over by Lord Shackleton, a Minister without portfolio. Lord Longford has been Government Leader in the House of Lords, and political observers say his resignation came as no surprise. Sources close to tire Prime Minister (Mr Harold Wilson) say there is no sign of any other Ministerial resignations, although it has been widely forecast that Miss Jennie Lee would give up her job as Minister of Culture if, as is the case, charges were brought back for medical prescriptions.
