Unique Dole Proposal

(N.Z. Press Association)

HAMILTON, Dec. 12. Unemployment benefits should be paid to local authorities rather than to the unemployed, according to the chairman of the Waikato trade union action committee on unemployment (Mr A. R. Tibby). He said today that such a plan would subsidise further public works and enable local authorities to provide work and wages for the jobless. Mr Tibby said his group would like to see a conference of Government and local authority representatives in the Waikato to discuss the extensian of public works to absorb the unemployed.
