Foot-and-Mouth Disease
Sir,—l, too, am deeply concerned at the threat of foot-and-mouth disease to this country whose economic state at the moment appears to be anything but healthy. If the disease were to penetrate here our goose would be well and truly cooked. I have worked practically all my life to help buy a dairy farm and had a Scottish husband who had not only seen the ravages of the disease in Britain but received Home papers in which I saw for myself pictures of the victims. More recently we saw this on television programmes. I know of a young farmer, recently arrived from the Orkney Isles, where the disease is rife, who had practically the same experience as “Retired Farmer." When will New Zealanders realise that there are more important things than Rugby football? —Yours, etc., FARMER’S WIDOW. December 11, 1967.
