Record Entries In Power Boat Trial

A RECORD number of 86 craft from as far afield as Tauranga and Invercargill will contest the 1967 Epiglass Freshwater 60 power boat reliability trial on New Zealand’s largest man-made lake, Lake Benmore, today. This year’s race has attracted considerable interest

and although the emphasis will not be on speed, leading boats such as V-Jet, Hustler, Miss Plylite 1, HiJack, La-Simone and Miss Plylite Temptress will be trying to be the first to complete the 60-mile two-lap course. V-Jet has done very well this vear. havinv won the

100-mile Lyttelton Harbour race and the Southern Lakes Boat Marathon. Many boats have already tried out the course to check their fuel consumption and nominated speed and familiarise themselves with the surroundings. This, the second trial organised by the Otematata Power Boat, Yacht and Water Ski Club, will begin at 11 a.m. from Sailors Cutting on the Ahuriri arm of the lake.
