Trainer Confident
The Adelaide trainer, J. B. Cummings, is conedent he will win tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup with Red Handed but he feels that the barrier draw could have cost him a chance to take first and second places in the race for the third year in succession. Cummings told “The Press” from Melbourne last night that Fulmen is not far off his best, which is very good at two miles, but the barrier position No. 26 could weigh heavily against him. Cummings has four acceptors in the field. He has had doubts whether he should run Swift General, which split a hoof three weeks ago, but the owner is keen to start this Agricola— Froth gelding.
Cummings other runner in the field is Ziema which won the Werribee Cup last Wednesday.
“His Werribee Cup run was a good one but I feel he is still not quote at his best,” Cummings said last night. Two years ago Ziema was runner-up In both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, going under only by inches to his stablemate. Light Fingers, in the Melbourne Cup.
