Fans Fit At Woodville
"The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Dashing work by the Sir Thomas Duncan Handicap con* tenders, Fans, Royal Red and Min Flicka, highlighted trials at Woodville yesterday when the course proper 50ft from the rails was coated with thick frost. Fans and Royal Red came out with flying colours and the jumper. Summer Flight, also created a most favourable impression. Fans, working possibly wider on the track than any of the first leg contenders, clocked Imin 49 3-ssec in a gallop which emphasised his fitness. He was assisted over the last six furlongs by Surrigo in Imin 21sec and they came home on terms from the three in 40 3-ssec. Royal Red and Min Flicka ran a mile in the same time. They also required Imin 21sec for the last six furlongs, and ran their final three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. Min Flicka had the inside running, but she carried a solid weight approaching 10-0. Automaton, fast approaching peak for the O'Neill Handicap, finished two lengths ahead of Blue Defaulter with a further three to Aorangi at the finish of six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec, the final three in 40sec. In a smart five furlongs. Blue Turtle shaded Free Pass, clocking Imin 3 4-ssec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. Summer Flight was in dashing form over hurdles. He jumped three alone and then he settled down to a brilliant display when joined for another five by Vulcan. Thk school must bring him into calculations for the Century Hurdles, especially if the track is reasonably firm.
