COST OF Fill

Price May Be Doubled (N.Z. Preu Astn.— Copyright) LONDON, May 31. Britain may have to pay about twice it had expected for the Fill fighter-bomb-ers that she is to buy from America, according to an article in the American “Fortune” magazine, “The Times” reported. Britain was to have paid £2BO million. Designed as the first allpurpose warplane, the Fill will be able to convert in mid-air from a low-fuel cruiser to a supersonic fighter by folding back its wings. The “Fortune” article said that an estimated £4OO million was to have been saved by eliminating duplication of research and so on that six entirely different aeroplanes would have entailed, “The Times” said. But, “Fortune” says, each service claimed its needs were more important than those of the others, and this rivalry caused design changes.
