YOUTH GUILTY

Jury Urges Mercy (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, May 30. After two hours’ deliberation a jury in the Hamilton Supreme Court tonight found Ngatai Haruru Karawana, aged 18, of Rotorua, guilty of taking aiway a girt without her consent, attempted rape and attempted murder. The jury made a strong recommendation for mercy. The accused was defended by Mr A. Potter, with him Mr C. K. Potter. The Crown Prosecutor was Mr K. L. Sandford, assisted by Mr C. Q. Almao. The trial was before Mr Justice Speight. Karawana was remanded in custody for a probation report.
