COUNCIL GRANTS
£llO4 Cut In Waimairi Grants made by the Waimairi County Council were sharply cut when the council last evening adopted its estimates. The vote was reduced from £3907 last year to £2803.
The council decided to meet in full 11 grants, and to pay subscriptions in full, but to reduce all other grants on its list by 50 per cent, and to tell the organisations concerned that it would be the last year they would be getting the money. The 11 “exempted” headings were the Automobile Association, the Canterbury Progress League and Public Relations Office, the Canterbury Surf Life-saving Association, civil defence, conference expenses, the Counties* Association, St. John Ambulance, South Island Local Bodies’ Association, the university church halls of residence, and the Waimairi Beach Surf Life-saving Club.
