N.Z. Future In Films
New Zealand has a great future in the film industry according to the experienced English stage and television actor, Mr Bruce Montague, who arrived in Christchurch to begin work with the Canterbury Regional Theatre last week-end.
“It only needs a singleminded and brood vision to stimulate it,” he said. “Hollywood was established because it had so many hours of sunshine to offer. New Zealand offers a temperate climate, and every imaginable scenic vista within a few hours travelling time.” Unlike many experienced stage actors, Mr Montague enjoys working with television, but considers it has not yet been fully exploited. “Noone writes plays for just television. They are either a ‘mini’ form of films or a close up view of the stage. “Neither are unique or eminently suitable. As yet it is only in the documentary that television comes into its own.”
