Strikes At MiG Bases

The United States Command yesterday reported powerful new attacks on Communist troops in the border provinces of South Vietnam, while American jets again hit at North Vietnam’s MiG airfields and a power plant inside Haiphong. The raids cost the United States one Navy Skyhawk jet, the 561st plane shot down over the North, and returning pilots said one Soviet-built missile exploded high over the Kau Kam river and Showered debris on a merchant ship moored In Haiphong, On the ground and in the air, the war seemed to be mounting in tempo. Clearing skies over the North permitted heavier raids and in the South both sides also appeared to be preparing for heavier clashes.
