Teachers’ College Anniversary
Celebrations of the ninetieth anniversary of the foundation of Christchurch Teachers’ College will begin on Sunday with two church services. The anniversary functions will be opened officially on Monday morning by the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella). Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Barbadoes street, at 11 a.m., while the Bishop of Christchurch (the Right Rev. W. A. Pyatt) will preach at a service in the Christchurch Cathedral at 3.45 p.m. A buffet tea will be held at the college at 5 p.m. On Monday an assembly will be held at the college hall at 9.30 a.m., followed by a roll call, photographs, and morning tea. Speakers at the assembly will be: Dr. J. G. Jobberns, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr Manning), Mr Kinsella, the chairman of the Canterbury Education Board (Mr A. Murray), the principal of the college (Mr G. Guy), and the
Director of Primary Education for New Zealand (Mr B. M. Pinder) who is a former student.
Sports programmes will be held on Monday afternoon and Tuesday and a dance will be held in the college hall on Monday. On Tuesday, there will be a conducted tour of Ham and a ball will be held during the evening. Among the 700 former pupils enrolled for the anniversary celebrations are two women who were students last century.
