Milk
Sir,—lllness prevented me from supporting the lone accusing voice on this sub-
ject, when the disgraceful state of Christchurch milk that did not conform to minimum standards was published. I have always proclaimed that Christchurch milk is the worst I have ever had in a long life; and that this city of 200,000 inhabitants should rise up and protest. In addition to having to accept this brashy beverage, we are now restricted to the use of pint bottles, while complaints about dirty bottles are neatly thrown back at the customer. The board should be told that, in better regulated communities, the customer is not expected to wash bottles, only to swill them in cold water, the retailers preferring to do it themselves. Sweet are the uses of monopoly, and our little milk dictators will run the trade to suit themselves unless a concerted appeal is made to higher authority.—Yours, etc., I.S.T. May 10, 1967.
