Strike Will Halt Mill
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, May 8. A week-long rail strike would halt all operations at the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company Ltd.’s mill at Kawerau, a company spokesman said today. The mill employs 1600 men. The strike prevents timber being railed to and from Kawerau, and the Timber Workers’ Union has already declared It will not load material normally carted by rail. The secretary of the union, Mr R. C. Hamilton, said today that men engaged in loading operations at big timber concerns faced dismissal from Wednesday onward.
