SPORTS AREA PROPOSAL

Board Awaits

Reports

When Mr R. A. Witbrock asked at yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Catchment Board that a subcommittee be set up to go into the development for sports of 2000 acres of board land at McLean’s Island, on the Waimakariri, it was stated that reports were awaited from the Waimairi and Eyre County Council*, affected by the proPOMIS. The land, not suitable for farm development, was an extreme fire hazard, said Mr Witbrock. The Regional Planning Authority wanted to get a sports area. Perhaps the two bodies could confer.

“People have been inspectinng this area with a view to its use for recreation," said Mr L. F. Wright “We don’t know how far we might be able to go, with finance* tied up.” The board decided to await reports from the counties.
