U.S. TIMBER TRADE
First Ship In July
Representatives of an American company, the Marine Chartering Company, which was taking over the timber run from the west coast of North America previously undertaken by the Union Steam Ship Company’s Waitemata, had been very impressed with the facilities at Cashin quay, the chairman (Mr L. G. Amos) reported to the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. It was hoped that the first shipment of timber would arrive at Lyttelton in July. The timber would be strapped in units of approximately two tons, and the company imposed a penalty of 10 dollars a ton on all cargo not “unitised” in some form.
