HAMILTON.
Interest in the Waikato Racing Club’s winter meeting will be intensified with the arrival next Monday of seven Southland jumpers. They will make the trip by air.
The horses, members of W. J. Hillis’s team, are Eiffel Tower, Macdonald, Ettrick, Arleigh, Koral and Bush Creek. All are owned by Mr W. E. Hazlett Eiffel Tower, Macdonald and Koral were campaigned in the north at this time last year. Eiffel Tower was successful over hurdles at Te Rapa and Macdonald captured a major prize when he convincingly won the Great Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie. Koral had a blood disorder last season and he failed to reproduce his best form in his northern engagements.
But on his return to the South Island he won the Homeby Steeplechase at Riccarton.
Eiffel Tower started as a maiden jumper at the Waikato winter meeting. His subsequent wins included the Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton. He will be a big attraction on his second northern trip and is being hailed as a likely winner of the Waikato and Great Northern Hurdles. Before being put ■to jumping Eiffel Tower was a top stayer and won the Wellington Cup. Ettrick and Bush Creek have been winners for the stable this season and should have plenty of opportunities in northern races. Arleigh, which has won twice in three starts this season, is a promising hack stayer.
