CHOIR WELL RECEIVED

Concert In Sydney (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY, May 3. The first performance of the Christchurch Harmonic Society’s Choir in Australia, which was attended by 2000 people in Sydney last night, was well received by music critics in newspapers today. The choir of 141 opened a 12-day concert tour of Australia by singing Dvorak’s “Stabat Mater” with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dean Dixon, at the Town Hall. The choir-master, Mr W. R. Hawkey, said today: “We were a little tense, as on any first night, but I think things went very well. The choir certainly enjoyed themselves.” The choir will give repeat performances of Dvorak’s work tonight and tomorrow night ’<■
