AWARD TO JENSEN
A PANEL of 14 international judges has named the British Jensen FF sports saloon as the world’s car-of-the-year.
The judges, all motoring journalists, came from the United States, Australia, Japan, Scandinavia and five other European countries. In choosing the four-wheel driven Jensen, which was introduced last October, the panel said it had ail the qualities of safety, compactness, comfort, value for money, and engineering advancement which the members were looking for. Mr B. Owen, managing director of Jensen Motors, Ltd., of West Bromwich, in the English Midlands, receiving the car-of-the-year trophy in London, said: “We have felt for a long time that the four-wheel drive system com-
bined with an anti-skid braking system makes the Jensen FF the safest car on the road today. We at Jensen feel that we have set a new standard in automotive safety.” The 140 m.p.h. Jensen is the first production saloon to use the British Ferguson formula (FF) four-wheel drive system and its specifications include a unit that intervenes during severe braking to prevent locking of the road wheels. Powered by a 6.3 litre V 8
engine developing 330 b.h.p., the FF has been designed to provide the highest standards of comfort and efficiency. Another British car, the two-litre Rover 2000, has also won two important awards. The 2000 saloon has emerged as the top compact saloon in the annual reader survey of the New York “Car and Driver” magazine, while the 2000 TC sporting version has topped the survey for sports saloons of up to 5 litres.
