DEVELOPING NATIONS
‘More Foreign Aid Needed’ (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 13. More foreign investment was needed urgently to close the widening gulf between Pacific developed and developing nations, a Thai delegate said at the first Pacific Industrial Conference, which opened in Sydney today. The general manager of the Thai Military Bank, Mr Sukum Navapan, told the 125 delegates from 23 countries: laudable concern for the wellbeing of the developing nations of South-east Asia and other areas has been expressed by the developed countries. Yet international investments into developed countries have been increasing at a faster rate than those into developing countries and there is an everwidening economic gap. The economic development in many South-east Asian countries had been achieved through their own efforts, with very little foreign aid, said Mr Navapan.
Taped Evidence.—Tape recorders will soon be used to record evidence given in Courts throughout New South Wales. They will replace shorthand writers and typists. —Sydney, April 13.
