FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An intense anti-cyclone centred in the south-west Tasman extends on to the South Island. A south-easterly airstream covers the North Island. Forecast: Canterbury and Kaikoura coast. —Southwesterly winds, fresh at first about Kaikoura coast and Banks Peninsula but moderate variable winds elsewhere; mainly cloudy and rather cool; becoming fine later in many inland places. Inland Marlborough and Nelson.—Light to moderate winds mainly from an easterly quarter; fine weather, mild in the afternoon. Buller and Westland.—Light to moderate variable winds; fine weather, mild in the afternoon. Outlook.—All districts: fair. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
