Relaxation Welcomed “If, as seems apparent from the cabled news, this means a relaxation of what is generally thought to be South Africa’s policy, then It should be welcomed by all people with the interests of sport at heart” Thus did Mr J. G. Leggat chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council’s Board of Control, greet the news yesterday of the change in South Africa’s racial policy towards sports teams. Mr Leggat said that as far as cricket was concerned, “we have never received any qualified invitation to tour South Africa, and our selectors have never been given any directive as to the racial composition of a team.” "For the present, at least,” said Mr Leggat, "it does not seem that South Africa will be playing the West Indies, India or Pakistan. In the context of the present strength of South Africa and the West Indies, especially, this is a matter for regret One can hope that in the course of time, this policy, too can be relaxed.”
