MILK TRUCK CANOPIES
Requirement From April 1 No trouble has arisen in Christchurch over canopies on' milk trucks, which are required as from April 1, and which Auckland milk vendors have refused to put on their vehicles. The Auckland Milk Vendors’ Association is trying toi get milk depots opened ear-| lier than midnight, so that vendors can have their deliveries finished by sunrise, and so do away with the necessity to put permanent canopies on their trucks. Milk vendors in Christchurch already had canopies on their vehicles, said the president of the Canterbury Milk Vendors’ Association (Mr P. A. Caithness) yesterday. In fact, the type of canopy as used in Canterbury had been adopted on a national basis as the best type for a milk truck, he said. “The Auckland men are entitled to express their opinion, but I don’t think they’ll get away with it,” Mr Caithness said. The regulation which requires a permanent canopy on a milk-delivery truck as from April 1 will come under Health Department enforcement. Until now, Auckland milk vendors have used canvas covers to protect the milk on their trucks from sunlight.
