DROWNED IN HEAVY SURF

(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREL March 28. A maa who was swimming with his family was swept away by an undertow and drowned in heavy surf at the beach alongside the Marsden Point power station project yesterday afternoon. He was Gordon Middleton Alexander, aged 40, Electricity Department assistant superintendent at the project, married, with four children.

Other swimmers also experienced difficulty with the undertow.
