Fire Destroys Documents

(N.Z. P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) RIO DE JANEIRO, March 28. The Church of St. Benedict of Black Men, one of Rio’s historic buildings, was destroyed by fire on Saturday night. It contained valuable documents of the long fight for the abolition of slavery in Brazil, including the Abolition Bill passed by the Senate and sanctioned by Princess Regent Isabel of Brazil on May 13, 1888. All were destroyed.
