Trade With Indonesia
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) DJAKARTA, March 15. Recent political changes in Indonesia have reopened the door—even if only slightly—for New Zealand exporters. In the short term, Indonesia’s chronic lack of overseas exchange makes it obvious that the country is not the solution to many of New Zealand’s trade problems. But in the long term, a market comprising 110 njillion people is worth close examination. The immediate needs of Indonesia, which could be met conceivably by New Zealand exporters, include fertiliser, insecticides, pesticides and milk powder. Milk powder i; not specifically mentioned in Indonesia’s list of “required imports” for 1967, but a spokesman for the Ministry of Trade replied with a definite “yes,” when asked if the Ministry would approve such imports.
