STAPLETON FAVOURITE FOR T.T. TITLE
Although a number of leading riders will be absent, there should be no lack of competition in the South Island 250 c.c. miniature T.T. championship to be held by the New Brighton club at Templeton on Sunday.
G. Stapleton (Christchurch) will start as the first choice for the title, on his Czecho-
slovakian C.Z., but the present South Island open scramble champion, G. Holland (Christchurch), must have an equally good chance. He will be riding a similar machine to Stapleton’s. This season Stapleton has shown flashes of brilliant form which suggest that he has a great future ahead of him. However, his machine has not proved completely reliable and this has cost him championship wins. Holland, on the other hand, has rarely suffered from mechanical troubles and already
has a string of titles to his name.
Unfortunately, the defending champion, R. (Sonny) Clarke, has not entered. This indicates that the main struggle will be between Stapleton and Holland, although B. Gurdler (Christchurch), G. Vercoe (Blenheim), B. Horton (Christchurch) and S. Trilford (Timaru) could provide a stimulating tussle for the minor placings. The championship will be decided on .points over three races of Iff laps each.
