Tight Finish To Club Cricket

There is the possibility that the top three teams will be separated by only one point when the penultimate round of the senior A cricket competition ends today.

West-University, which heads the grade, still needs 39 runs for a first innings lead against Riccarton with only

two wickets in hand, but is virtually certain of bonus points. An outright win to Riccarton would bring it one point ahead of West-Univer-sity. High School Old Boys already have the lead and bonus points against Sydenham, which appears doomed for relegation, and if this position can be capitalised upon, Old Boys would join the other two leaders. Lancaster Park, doing well against St. Albans, should lift itself clear of any threat of finishing last and an outright win could lift it to within about four points of the top teams and drop St. Albans from second-to-top to second-to-last.

This round is fraught with possibilities but two factors predominate: Sydenham will have a tremendous struggle to come from the foot of the table it has occupied since the first round, and no clear winner of the competition has yet emerged.
