£lOO Gift Made
Members of the Association of Friends of the Canterbury Museum agreed at the annual meeting to give a further £lOO towards their building fund for addition of a new wing to the museum. The fund which was established by the association in December last year now stands at £6lO.
The president (Mr S. R. Dacre) said that the addition of the wing, which would be a national Antarctic centre, was one of the coming duties members had to face. On behalf of the museum staff, the director of the museum (Dr. R. S. Duff) thanked members for their support and help. The meeting was followed by an illustrated talk on Japan and the Pacific, given by Dr. Duff.
Officers elected were: Patron, Captain G. H. Dennistoun; president, Mr S. R. Dacre: secretary, Mrs R. S. Duff: treasurer, Dr. G. B. Battersby; auditor, Mr A. C. Felton; committee. Dr. R. S. Duff (ex-officio), and Messrs C. Dunn, A. M. Eyles, F. K. Gottermeyer (ex-officio), W. S. Baverstock, B. N. Norris (exofficio), G. C. C. Sandston, J. C. Wilson, D. B. Gregg, and C. Northcroft, and Mesdames W. S. Mac Gibbon, J. J. Mulligan, and P. Thomson, and Miss R. Reynolds.
The Deputy-Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages at Auckland (Mr F. G. Elsmore) has been appointed Registrar in Christchurch.
