Lodge Wants Govt. Scheme
The Governments of New Zealand and Australia will be asked to implement and contribute to a dental welfare scheme by the Grand Lodge of Australasia of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. At its 26th triennial session, being held in Christchurch, grave concern was expressed at the lack of dental benefit schemes. A case will be put to both Governments which will compare medical and hospital assistance schemes with that of dental services.
The grand secretary (Mr G. Cantrill) said that the session considered various aspects of the present system and carried a resolution expressing the need for improving dental health in both Australia and New Zealand.
“Newspapers in Australia have long been highly critical at the lack of State aid for dental services and it has always been a duty of the lodge, and all friendly societies, to help the public whenever they can,” said Mr Cantrill. The Governments will be asked to implement suitable schemes and also contribute to them. Members of the public and lodges would also contribute, he said.
